Finger Lakes Freeze Girls Hockey - 2016-17 Program Overview
Finger Lakes Freeze is excited to once again offer a range of age and skill appropriate girls hockey teams for the 2016-17 season. We are committed to growing girls hockey and providing a centralized location for girls in the Finger Lakes to enjoy this great sport. This will be the third season as the Freeze to support girls hockey players in our region.
The Freeze's intention is to field 3 full-season teams in 2016-17. A U19 nontournament-bound (NTB) U14/16 team (age level TBD, based on age makeup of team and registration), a U19 NTB team and a U14 tournament-bound (TB) team. The organization is also considering a supplemental U12 team.
While schedules for 2016-17 season have not been established, Freeze teams traditionally play in the Great Lakes Girls Hockey League (GLGHL), which includes home and away games against teams from Rochester and Buffalo. Non-league opponents include games against Oswego, Ithaca, Skaneateles and Camillus (Syracuse).
It's anticipated that all Freeze teams will play in 2-3 tournaments during the course of the season, with 2 of those tournaments in Canada.
Freeze teams practice and play out of the Greater Canandaigua Civic Center, which is located on the northern edge of Canandaigua, less than 25 minutes from Fairport, less than 20 minutes from Perinton and only a 15 minute drive from Victor. The Freeze is a regional team, and teams consist of girls from Canandaigua, Victor, Webster, Perinton, Fairport, Webster, Geneseo, Bloomfield and Geneva.
Canandaigua offers very reasonable season fees compared to many other equivalent programs in our area. Another great advantage of playing for the Freeze is a consistent weekly practice schedule. Historically, our programs have offered a season practice schedule that is the same week to week throughout the entire season.
