CKH Photo pick up schedule

The hockey photos are back from the lab and we are diligently sorting them.  These do NOT include the Saturday Beginner photos.

We will be at the rink to deliver the photos on Monday, December 10 from 5:00pm-7:30pm and Thursday, December 13 from 5:00pm - 8:30pm.  We are asking that parents please stop into the conference room and pick up the photo packages on either of those days.  By hand delivering the photos, we have been able to keep our package the same for over 15 years.  You can help us to continue to keep the prices low by picking up the photos on delivery day by helping us to avoid cost of shipping.  If you are unable to make it to the rink on either of those days, you can give the studio a call at 585-393-9242 to arrange for pick up at the studio at 114 S. Main St., Canandaigua.

Thank you.

Winter Beginner Hockey Session Starts January 5th

Help Spread the Word -- Beginner Hockey Starts January 5, 2019

Knights Hockey is offering a Winter Beginner Hockey Program starting on January 5. As a member of our Knights Hockey family, please help spread the word about our program and how fun hockey is.  Word of mouth is one way children/parents learn about us.  Please share the following details with people you know and encourage them to give hockey a try.

Winter Session:  Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m. beginning January 5 through February 23, 2019

Knights Hockey registration fee is $80 (http://ckhockey.org/) and players must also register online with USA Hockey (USAhockeyregistration.com).

If you have a skater in our fall Beginner Hockey program and plan to register for the winter session, use the same USA hockey number you received when you registered for the fall session.  If you borrowed equipment, we ask that you hold on to the equipment until the end of the winter session.

Loaner Equipment Program available while supplies last (helmet, chest protector, pants, shin guards, elbow guards, gloves, jersey & stick) - Details for equipment handout will be sent to those registered prior to January 5.  A $80 refundable deposit is required.  Parents are responsible for skates and mouthguard.

If you have any questions, please contact   .

Thank you for your help!

Have Fun!  Build Confidence!  Play Hockey!

Beginner Hockey - Begins January 5, 2019

Registration is now open for our winter session of Beginner Hockey.  The 8-week program begins January 5 and concludes February 23, 2019. See the Beginners tab above for details on our beginner program. If you have questions, please send an e-mail to: ckhbeginners@gmail.com.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can my child participate with no/little skating experience?  Absolutely.  Children who participate in beginner hockey have varying levels of skating experience.

What equipment is required?   You must provide: skates and mouth guard. Other hockey equipment needed: helmet, gloves, shin guards and elbow pads.  These items are available for loan on a first come, first served basis and can be borrowed for a $80 refundable deposit due at time of pick-up. A jersey and hockey stick will be provided to all beginner skaters.

Note: Skates rented at the rink need to be returned after each session, so the skates are available for other young skaters during the week.

Can my child use figure skates?  No, coaches ask that all beginners have hockey skates.  Bring your own or rent from the Greater Canandaigua Civic Center, while supplies last. For those planning to bring their own, new/used skates can be purchased for a nominal fee at various stores.

What skate size should my child get?  This depends on the brand.  Typically it is 1-2 sizes smaller than shoe size. Greater Canandaigua Civic Center staff can help with fitting on rentals and most retailers can offer fitting assistance. We recommend this before purchase.

Do skates need to be sharpened?  If you have purchased new/used skates for your child, they will need to be sharpened. This can be done at the rink for a nominal fee.

Can I go on ice with skaters

We welcome volunteers who have played hockey or can skate. Requirements to do so include: helmet, skates and completing the Meghan’s Law screening on-line (see link below).  There is a $25 fee for this screening. The certificate of completion must be handed to a Canandaigua Knights Board representative before you can get on ice.  NYSAHA/USA Hockey Background Screening (On-line) - Also known as Meghan's Law: www.commercialinvestigationsllc.com/vssnysaha

What is the $80 registration fee used for?  Canandaigua Knights Hockey is run by many volunteers.  The money collected is primarily used for the cost of the ice and equipment.

Other helpful tips:

-        Plan to arrive at least 25 minutes early to dress your child in the hockey equipment, unless they come to rink dressed, to ensure they get on the ice on time.

-        Loose fitting pants are recommended (sweats/PJ bottoms ).  You want pants to fit over shin guards. This makes it easier for skater to stand…plastic shin guards are very slippery on ice.

-        We recommend you take the equipment out of the bag to dry when you get home each week.

-        We’ve been asked where children can get additional ice time to improve their skating.  The Greater Canandaigua Civic Center (gccc.org) offers open skate times to the public.  See their website for details.

The mission of the Knights is to provide boys and girls in the Finger Lakes region an opportunity to play ice hockey with an emphasis on promoting life lessons and skill development in a positive and friendly environment that will evolve into a lifelong passion for the sport of hockey.
